After three successful years lowering property taxes for Texas homeowners, the Home Tax Shield team is proud to continue our mission of providing every Texas homeowner a fair property tax value. By combining industry-leading data and technology with local, experienced tax professionals, Home Tax Shield delivers a premium property tax service at the best price point possible.
Strength in the Texas real estate market continued
2023 preliminary values saw significant increases (again) in almost every county in the state. Counties are required to use data from the prior calendar year, and the strong sellers’ market in first half of 2022 provided the data they needed to raise values. According to Texas A&M Housing, the average home price peaked in May 2022 at $349,000 and, despite a price correction in the second half of the year, the state’s median price still rose 3.7% from 2021. These strong numbers made it difficult to achieve value reductions but despite this challenging environment, Home Tax Shield again delivered superior value to our customers:
- $18+ billion of Texas real estate across 45 counties
- $1+ billion of value reductions for Texas homeowners
- Average value reduction per home = $30,117
- Average tax savings per home = $369
- Average reduction = 5.2%
- 83% success rate
- 100% of our clients received a fair tax value for 2023
Most importantly, the process we follow ensures 100% of our clients receive a fair tax value each year. Our commitment to fairness and transparency influences our approach to every aspect of our business, including only charging homeowners a success fee if we reduce their tax bill after exemptions. This means we often deliver big value reductions but don’t charge for them. In 2023, we delivered $203 million in free value reductions! Not all tax firms spend the time or the effort to ensure homeowners are truly paying fees for actual tax savings, but at Home Tax Shield we do.
What is next for 2024? Is The Texas Residential Real Estate Market Slowing Down?
Transaction volume slowed significantly in 2023 but prices have only just started to soften. We expect many counties will set 2024 values flat or slightly down from 2023. Sometimes homeowners feel relief when the county gives them a lower value and they skip out on protesting. Don’t make this common mistake! When the market changes, that’s the best time to hire a tax professional to make sure the county is applying the market change correctly to your home.
Heading into 2024, Home Tax Shield will continue to expand across Texas so more homeowners can be sure they are not overpaying their property taxes. Our frictionless sign-up process and low fees ensure high-quality, professional representation is available to ALL Texas homeowners regardless of geography, economic status, or home value.
